Come see how I made this DIY Football Mason Jar craft with just a few supplies! You can use these in any way you like for football season, Super Bowl or even a cute handmade gift for the Football Lover in your life.
I’m still over here planning things for the Super Bowl and working on some cute ideas for our table decor! This DIY Football Mason Jar craft is an easy one that really anyone can do. I love that it can also be used to hold silvereware (or in my case compostableware) or used as a vase if you want to have flowers on the table. Here’s what you need to know to make this!
Supplies for making the Football Mason Jar
To make the DIY Football Mason Jar Craft you don’t need a lot. It consists of mason jars, paint and the sticker for the front of it. In my case, this sticker is a vinyl sticker cut from my Cricut {HERE}. However, I’ll give you a PDF you can use to make stickers with on your printer too. The only downside is you will have to cut them out. OR, you could get some white paint and paint on the laces of the football. Aside from the laces, the craft is pretty straight forward.
- Smooth Side Mason Jars – I used these ones {HERE}. I actually measured the compostableware that I was going to put in them so I could made sure the jar was appropriately sized. Since I only used three of these for the craft. I used the others in a bonus craft that I’ll show you further down!
- Brown Paint – To get this color I combined two brown paint colors. I used Craftsmart Deep Bronze {HERE} and Cocoa Bean. I couldn’t locate Cocoa Bean online but it’s from Michael’s.
- Paint brushes – I used sponge brushes {HERE}.
- Cricut Premium White Vinyl that is dishwasher safe {HERE}
- My Cricut pattern That is correctly sized from the Cricut Design Studio {HERE}
This isn’t needed, but I found my compostableware at Target. {HERE} are the forks from the brand I use. I really love these products. They’re made from plants, they creak down and they hold up to use. And they have straws too! I used them everyday in my iced coffee and they don’t fall apart. {HERE} is a link to the straws.
Cricut Alternatives
If you don’t have a Cricut, {HERE} is the adhesive sticker paper I would use. It is waterproof.
Here is the PDF —> Football Laces PDF <— that you can print on the adhesive paper. Print this on the back side of it so the black doesn’t print on the white paper. When you cut it out you will still have a nice white sticker front for the football laces.
If you want to paint – If you decide you would rather paint the laces on, then you will need a white paint and an extra paint brush. I might print the PDF above and cut it out, then use it to create a stencil. I think that might be easier than free handing it.
If you want the PDF larger or smaller you either need a program that helps you to edit PDFs OR you can turn it into a jpeg and then re-size as needed.
Steps for making the Football Mason Jar
- Prep the mason jars by wiping them down with water to make sure the surface is clean. Let them dry fully.
- Next, mix the paint colors if you’re using two by 50/50. Then cover the outside of the mason jar with one coat of paint. Let it dry and add subsequent coats. I needed about 3 coats to get this coverage and then I touched up in some areas. You can wrap your paint and brush in a plastic bag to make sure it stays useable. If you try to remix, make sure you are going to paint an entire new coat on the mason jars. You don’t want to ended up with inconsistent paint coloring throughout the jars.
- Once the jars are dry, apply the laces. To make them with the Cricut, let the machine do the work and then just peel and stick the vinyl on the front of your jars. If you’re working with the adhesive stickers, print and cut them out. If you’re painting, godspeed on getting consistency.
- Once everything is done and dry you can use the Football Mason Jar craft as you like for silverware or as a vase.
Additional Idea…
When I was searching the Cricut design studio to see if there were football laces, I came across them and they were on drink glasses. Since I had extra mason jars, I decided to do that too! You can also do this on the mason jars I’ve linked with the same Cricut File I’ve linked to above. I’ve created the file to print these to the correct size Mason Jars I used for the Football Mason Jar craft. If you are going to use a different size, keep in mind you will have to alter the laces too.
Again, if you don’t have a Cricut, you can use the adhesive stickers for this, or you can use white glass paint (which should stay on when being cleaned). Perhaps just create the stencil I suggested above to help with consistency.
